More than 18,000 hate crimes reported across the country in 2018 – that figure comes from the FBI. The media has shown the targets are women, members of the LGBTQI community, Muslims, recent immigrants, people of color – all Americans. All the targets of indiscriminate hate. The problem extends to institutions that are meant to protect us. Police brutality claims an unarmed young black life in one community; reports of white supremacists infiltrating law enforcement in another. Dehumanizing immigration policies separate children from parents. Even the pulpit of the presidency is used to disseminate fear and promote stereotypes. As the ‘Beloved Community” prophesized by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. grows more and more distant, millennials are rejecting status quo solution. A new generation of social justice leaders – personified by #metoo, #blacklivesmatter, and #marchforourlives” – is taking to social media and reinventing grassroots advocacy. This session breaks down this era of transformation. We’re bringing together some of the most dynamic and impactful change agents for a lively exchange of ideas and action steps to take the struggle forward. Come for the talk; leave with the tools to act! #StandAgainstHate!
