William Barnes has served as president and CEO of the Alabama affiliate of the National Urban League since 2015, Under his leadership, Birmingham Urban League has expanded its programs to serve more than 9,000 Alabama families annually. Barnes’ project management and communication skills have broadened the organization's scope in the areas of workforce development, housing, entrepreneurial services, and youth development. Previously, he served six years as senior advisor to the 33rd mayor of Birmingham and is a former board member of the African American Empowerment Fund. Currently, Barnes serves as president of the National Urban League Advisory Council of Executives. He was recently named one of the Birmingham Business Journal “Power 60.”
