Tara N. Spain is vice president and chief operating officer of the Travelers Foundation and assistant vice president of community relations at Travelers. Ms. Spain manages strategy and operations for the company’s philanthropic arm, as well as key national partnerships throughout the United States. In this role, she was instrumental in launching a national small business initiative for women, veteran and entrepreneurs of color and a college access initiative for underrepresented students. Prior to her role in community relations, she was a marketing project manager and account manager with Citigroup, managing marketing strategies for five product lines. Tara has served on several non-profit boards and is currently a board member of ReSet (Social Enterprise Trust) and Usher’s New Look. She is also an advisor for the Pell Institute, a research and public policy thinktank in Washington, DC and the U.S. Chamber Foundation. Tara has been recognized with several honors including 40 Under 40 by the Hartford Business Journal, Volunteer of the Year by the Urban League of Greater Hartford, A Women of Influence by Usher’s New Look and she received the Recent Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Connecticut. She holds a B.S. in Marketing from Virginia State University, Magna Cum Laude, a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Connecticut, and a Certificate in Community Involvement Leadership from the Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College’s Carroll School of Management. She currently lives in West Hartford, Connecticut.
