On November 14, 1960, Tessie Prevost was one of the four 6-year-old girls who entered all-white schools and desegregated the New Orleans public school system. Exhibiting exemplary bravery, the “New Orleans Four” inspired the decade’s Children’s Crusade to desegregate schools in Deep South states. Prevost worked 27 years with the Louisiana State University Health Science Center. At age 69, she founded New Orleans Four in partnership with childhood friend and schoolmate Gail Etienne. Prevost and Etienne are co-authors of the upcoming children’s book, “The New Orleans Four Go to School,” which tells the story of their experience during the desegregation crisis of the 1960s. The company is also working with celebrated photographer Peter G. Forest on “When The Glory Comes,” a compilation of intimate photographs of their civil rights journey.
