Dr. Thomas A. LaVeist was appointed dean in 2018, having previously served as chair of the health policy and management department at the George Washington University, Milken Institute School of Public Health. He joined GWU after 25 years on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where he was founding director of the Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions. Dr. LaVeist is author of six books and the executive producer of “The Skin You’re In,” a documentary series about racial inequalities in health. He is the recipient of the “Innovation Award” from the National Institutes of Health, and the “Knowledge Award” from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health.
