Russ Mitchell is an award-winning journalist with more than 40 years of experience in national and local television news. A proud native of St. Louis, Missouri, Russ began his career while still in high school, working at KTVI-TV. He joined CBS News in 1992 and spent two decades at the network, serving as anchor for the CBS Evening News, The Early Show, and CBS Sunday Morning. He was also a correspondent for Eye to Eye with Connie Chung, covering major domestic and international stories, including the death of Princess Diana and the post-9/11 recovery in New York. In 2011, he anchored the network’s breaking news coverage of the killing of Osama bin Laden. Russ has earned numerous honors, including 22 Emmy Awards, the Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, three Murrow Awards, and the Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism.
