Karen is the founder of Urban Poetik Ministries, Inc (UPM) a nonprofit organization whose  mission is to bring urban poetic works that include music and dance to the stage. She has written and produced such works as “Song of Solomon: Poetry in Motion,” a tribute to black love, and “Packing Up: The Marion Williams Story” in honor of the legendary gospel singer. Karen’s signature production, “Poetik Blues: A Sistah’s Story,” premiered in 2012. In 2019, Karen helped establish the I AM THE COLOUR  OF BEAUTIFUL™ spoken word movement. Through this initiative, she works to liberate darker skinned women from the stigma of colorism psyche by enabling them to write and perform their experiences through the spoken  word.
