Kristen Clarke leads the Justice Department’s federal civil rights enforcement efforts to uphold the civil and constitutional rights of all who live in America. Clarke has devoted her career in public service, starting as a trial attorney in the department’s civil rights division. In 2006, she joined the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, where she helped defend the constitutionality of the Voting Rights Act and provided testimony on federal and state voting rights legislation. She served as head of the Civil Rights Bureau for the New York State Attorney General’s Office and in 2015 was named president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, one of the nation’s leading civil rights organizations.
