Judson W. Robinson III is a third-generation Houstonian with a varied and successful background in business, politics, and community service. Judson received a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Fisk University. He began his professional career at IBM, where he excelled as a leader in sales, marketing, and account management. Ultimately, Judson entered local politics and was elected to the Houston City Council from 1992-1997 as Council Member At-Large Position 5. He also served as Vice Mayor Pro-Tem, where he chaired four Council committees including the Redevelopment and Revitalization Committees, and served on six others including the City’s Committee on Business and Tourism The, which he founded. Judson’s primary focus was community development during his tenure on the Council. Under his leadership, the Hilton Americas-Houston (a convention center hotel) and the redevelopment of Texas Avenue and Midtown were launched in preparation for the Super Bowl and new downtown attractions.
After serving effectively on the Houston City Council for three terms, Judson worked as an entrepreneur in his own consulting firm. Later, he accepted a Regional Vice President position with PSI, one of the country’s largest engineering laboratories. After five years at PSI, Judson became the Deputy Commissioner for Commissioner Sylvia R. Garcia at Harris County. In his position, he helped manage the precinct’s $30 million operating budget.
In January of 2008, Judson took a more active role in civil rights and advocacy and became President and CEO of the Houston Area Urban League where he currently serves. He often provides commentary on local and national issues and can be seen on various news and information broadcasts. Judson continues his public service efforts with nonprofit organizations including the United Way, Menninger Clinic, Uptown Redevelopment Authority, Greater Houston Partnership, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. In addition to his endeavors in community service and civil rights and advocacy, Judson is also a licensed realtor.
He is married to Cora Robinson. They have three children – Jerika, Cortney, and Judson IV.
