Damon T. Hewitt has more than 20 years of civil rights litigation and policy experience, including prior leadership roles in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and public sectors. Prior to joining the Lawyers’ Committee, Hewitt was the inaugural executive director of the Executives’ Alliance for Boys and Men of Color, where he served as the philanthropic community’s chief liaison to the White House on policy issues impacting young men of color. Under his leadership, the Alliance launched more than $200 million in collaborative grantmaking efforts on issues ranging from police accountability to college completion. For more than a decade, Hewitt was an attorney at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, serving as lead counsel on a variety of litigation and policy matters. He started his career as a Skadden Fellow, eventually coordinating organization-wide litigation and advocacy efforts in response to Hurricane Katrina.
