Bevon Joseph, originally from Trinidad & Tobago, relocated to the United States after completing his high school education. He graduated from DePaul University with a B.A. in Information Management Systems and has had a 15-year career in the trading industry, specializing in technology. Bevon has held notable positions at financial institutions such as JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, UBS, Chicago Trading Company, PEAK6 Investments, and Achievement Asset Management. Additionally, he has worked on the trading floors of the NYSE, NYMEX, and AMEX.
In 2015, Bevon founded the Greenwood Project, an initiative that began with five students and has since assisted over 1,000 Black and Latinx students in gaining exposure to the financial services industry. Many of the program's alumni now work as financial services professionals across the United States.
Currently, Bevon Joseph serves as the Head of Innovation at Skillful.ly, where he leads the most expansive technology-driven, skills-first workforce development initiative in Chicago. His primary objective is to connect up to 10,000 Chicagoans with rewarding career opportunities at some of the city's major employers. In his role, Bevon is actively reshaping the Chicago labor market by prioritizing actual skills and potential over traditional resumes and pedigree.
Mr. Joseph firmly believes that kids can't be what they can't see. He recognizes that talent is abundant and that the true obstacle lies in the lack of opportunity.
