Alaysia Black Hackett is the lead strategist for the Department of Labor’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) programs. She serves as the agency’s principal advisor and expert on promoting DEIA to diversify the workforce and dismantle historically exclusive systems that perpetuate discrimination. Previously, Hackett provided executive-level diversity leadership in the public and private sector. She served as the deputy chief diversity officer to Virginia Governor Ralph S. Northam where she co-created the ONE Virginia plan, a DEI strategic initiative for inclusive excellence across 100+ state agencies. She also served as the DEI consultant for the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management and spent 18 years in administration and diversity officer roles in higher education. Hackett received the 2020 Governor’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Outreach Award for leadership in prioritizing equity Virgninia’s COVID-19 pandemic response.
