Dr. Anthony Estreet
Chief Executive Officer National Association of Social Workers (NASW)

Dr. Anthony Estreet serves as Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), bringing over two decades of experience as a scholar, practitioner, and leader in the field of social work.

Dr. Estreet began his academic career at Morgan State University, where he rose from adjunct professor to full professor and Chair of the MSW Program. During his tenure, he co-edited a landmark book on African-centered clinical interventions and published over 40 peer-reviewed articles focused on social work education, workforce development, and clinical practice.

A dedicated advocate for the profession, Dr. Estreet previously served as Vice President of the NASW Board of Directors and chaired both the NASW National Ethics Committee and the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Specialty Practice Section. He also co-chaired the planning committee for a groundbreaking National Social Work Conference.

In addition to his academic and association leadership, Dr. Estreet has held multiple executive roles, including clinical director, CEO of a behavioral health treatment facility, and senior consultant. He is also the founding president of the Baltimore Legacy Chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers.

Dr. Estreet’s deep commitment to equity, ethics, and advancing the profession has made him a trusted voice in shaping the future of social work. His leadership at NASW reflects a clear vision for supporting social workers and strengthening services for marginalized communities.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Bowie State University, an MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Doctorate in Social Work from Morgan State University, and an MBA from the University of Maryland–College Park. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the nation’s oldest intercollegiate African American fraternity.
