Kristian Y. Buchanan is one of the top talents to emerge in the event sponsorships and media industry. The gifted brand strategist showcases her skills and ability outside the spotlight and with the success of everything she touches, this executive continues to prove that she’s one to watch both now and in the future.
Currently the Vice President of Partnerships & Advancement at the National Urban League, Kristian has more than 15 years of experience in the areas of sponsor relations, event production, digital marketing, public and media relations as well as program development. She is visionary behind Urban League 360°.
This new integrated marketing initiative develops and activates multichannel audience engagement campaigns for new and existing partners that effectively communicates the organization’s mission, programs, research and advocacy efforts.
Kristian has coordinated and managed sponsor relations support and all public and media relation’s facets of event and entertainment marketing for a variety of clients. Working with such clients as the National Football League, ESSENCE, Black Enterprise, State Farm, and Bishop T. D. Jakes.
Kristian also has co-produced many successful events including the Black Enterprise/Academy Awards Hollywood Party and the 2003 and 2002 Mayors Essence Festival Welcome Party. Kristian coordinated and implemented the entire event from start to finish, including stage production, sponsor’s and vendor’s procurement and entertainment management. The dynamic event producer is equally adept with strategic analysis, which is why she has experienced steady ascension up the corporate ladder. She has conceptualized and implemented cross marketing and high-profile branding opportunities for Patti Labelle, will.i.am, and Yolanda Adams during her events. Her efforts resulted in massive coverage by a wide spectrum of media including the BBC, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, People and ESSENCE magazines.
As a testament of her talents, The Network Journal Named Kristian 40 under 40, and the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME) named Kristian Rising Young Executive of the Year.
