The Reverand Dr. Jonathan “Jay” Augustine is a nationally recognized social justice advocate, multidisciplinary academic leader, and accomplished author. In addition to his role as the senior pastor of St. Joseph AME Church in Durham, NC, he is a member of the faculty at Duke Divinity School. He is the author of several books on the intersection of law and religion, including “When Prophets Preach: Leadership and the Politics of the Pulpit” (Fortress Press, 2023) and” Called to Reconciliation: How the Church Can Model Justice, Diversity and Inclusion” (Baker Academic, 2022). Dr. Augustine serves as chair of the Board of Directors of the N. Joyce Payne Center for Social Justice, an affiliate of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and as a member of the board of directors of PartnersGlobal, Inc.
