Al Smith’s is responsible for the generation and implementation of ideas, products, and services that improve the environment, uplift communities, and create social change. The integration of these functions with Toyota’s assets helps bring sustainable, positive benefits to society, supports underserved communities, and strengthen Toyota’s business in North America.
Smith’s 29-year career at Toyota spans strategic planning, sales, customer service, technology, parts distribution and logistics, financial service, and administration. Recently, Smith was group vice president of service operations and corporate planning for Toyota Financial Services and Lexus Financial Services. His responsibilities included leading customer service, collections, asset protection, central recovery, and fraud departments.
Through the Toyota USA Foundation, Smith guides a $100 million charitable endowment that supports innovative programs for students and teachers at all grade levels in science, technology, engineering, and math
Smith is a member of the National Urban League board of trustees, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Board, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Advisory Council, and the Executive Leadership Council. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University.
