Black politics and activism has taken on a new face in our country. African American millennials are changing the political structure of our government not just by participating in the voting process but becoming politicians. In 2017, Randall Woodfin became the youngest mayor-elect of Birmingham, Alabama in modern history. Prior to that, Chokwe Lumumba also achieved a successful win as the mayor of Jackson, Mississippi that same year. Both young, black and elected, leading a new era in black politics. This session will focus on this new movement of African American politicians that are driving political progression in this country.
